The Australian Industry Group strongly welcomes the Victorian Government’s economic survival package to support businesses and jobs, announced by the Victorian Premier and the Victorian Treasurer.
The shut down of non-essential services across parts of Australia may trigger conditions in the Fair Work Act that will allow employers to stand staff down without pay, according to Employsure, Australia’s leading workplace relations company.
“The additional economic measures being announced by the Federal Government today (March 22 2020) are a timely and welcome response to the rapidly escalating challenges facing Australian businesses and households,” Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the national employer association Ai Group said.
“The Australian population continued to slow in the September 2019 quarter, driven by a reduction in overseas migration,” stated Tim Reardon, HIA’s Chief Economist.
Household fees and charges will be frozen and Western Australian small and medium businesses will receive additional relief, as part of a $516 million stimulus package announced by the WA Government.
The Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management, David Littleproud has urged those businesses and Australians who will receive the Federal Government’s stimulus to buy Australian made products and buy from Australian businesses.
The Federal Government’s economic stimulus package will provide welcome support for Australian businesses and households, but there are still significant challenges ahead as governments manage the public health response to the coronavirus outbreak.
